Default What do you make of this.

Just been looking on another (non car) forum and found a thread about an 04 Astra which was involved a head on collision with a bus. According to the thread the car was doing 20-25 MPH.

The OP asked why the airbags didn't go off but it was soon hijacked into why the car was parked on the pavement

Anyway I'm puzzled as to why the airbags didn't go off too.

The accident was last week and nobody was hurt. Here's a picture he posted up.

no air bags should have still gone off due to the front end has been pushed down into the chaise legs which should have set them off

I was thinking the same...buses don't tend to make lamp post shape dints when they hit cars.

I'd have expected the airbags to go off though.

when i was delivering car's a few yr's ago i had to fetch one of the lad's who had had a bad accident in a 2000 vec 'B' SRI front ender, he ran into another car at 45 mph and the air bag's didn't deploy on that......
was told by vx engineer that sensor's were below head light's and this is why they were not activated......

not starting a slanging match but........
i did 5 nearly 6 years as a accident repair panel beater and i have seen less damage than that and airbags have gone but.... i suppose it all depends if it hits it just right beacuse on any car there is no maybe it will maybe it wont its either yes or no because they are not that sensitive at all

The front bumper hasn't got any damage on it. That's a bit strange for a head-on crash, is it not??

Air bag sensors are inside the vehicle or as its called the airbag control module.in simpl terms it works like a mercury switch and a bump causes it to make contact and then deploy the airbag.
