    Default Lambda sensor - Z32SE - where is bank 1, sensor 1?

My Vec's engine management light illuminated so I took it to Vauxhall who said it was a faulty lambda sensor, bank 1, sensor 1.

Priced up a new one and wondered if I could save on the labour by fitting it myself, does anyone know which location on which manifold this sensor is located?

I can obviously see the front one clearly enough but if it's on the back I'm not sure how easy it'll be to access

Also are there any special instructions? or is it just a case of making sure I do the job when the engine is switched off and obviously cool to touch?

    Cheers,

    Kev

I can't help on where bank one is. But when I changed one on a Ford V6 I just unplugged it, unscrewed it and replaced it. Job done.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Right this is from a German site that I have run through Google Translator, hope it helps.

    * The Z32SE has 4 lambda probes. These are referred to as 1 bank probe 1 or 2 and Bank 2 probe 1 and 2
    * This is basically the Bank 1 cylinder bank meant whose Zahnriehmen closer to the head than the other. The Vectra Bank C is 1 to the passenger compartment closer cylinder bank, Bank 2 is the cooler more.
    * 1 probe is the one who Vorkats in front of the manifold is mounted (ie closer to the cylinder head). 2, the probe according to the assembled Vorkats

So it looks like its the manifold closer to the firewall and the sensor is the top one.

bank one is where cylinder number 1 is and that is the head near the bulk head so you will need to change / look at the first o2 sensor on that bank..

if it comes undo easily then it's quite a simple swap over......if it won't come out then it'll be a swine..

use a proper lambda socket so as to not round it off..

    Holy thread revival batman!

Well, the other weekend when I fitted the new brakes I attempted to unloosen the (alleged) faulty Lambda sensor, got a lamp in the engine bay and had a scout about at the back, I found removing the top black plastic cover gave more space to get a hand between IT and the bulkhead, found the sensor, the 1st one, located at the top of the manifold, got an adjustable on at and pulled for all I was worth, could not get it to shift!

So, this evening, finished work, came up to the apartment for my tools, went back down stairs and tried again and to my suprise it came loose with very little effort at all, the engine was still warm though so maybe this helped?

    Anyway,

made sure the key wasn't in the ignition and disconnected the connector plug, screwed new sensor in place and tightened up, plugged it in then fires up the car,

    Result....

The engine management light is still illuminated!

Can anyone shed any light on this as to what might be causing the problem?

Is it at all possible that even though the new sensor is fitted the car still need's Tech2'd to wipe the fault codes off?
