Engine Electronics/Immobiliser Light
I have Vectra 2.0 DTI Vectra. When starting from cold, the engine takes a few turns to start, (bit smokey at the exhaust but I guess this is excess fuel) and this light comes on. Goes off when I've driven a few yards. Does not go off if I gently rev the engine.
Leak over pipes modified last winter, and starting problem cured. Car starts ok when warm/hot.
Any ideas why this should happen when its cold?
Also noticed that when there is a light frost/damp night there is a clear circle adjacent to the washer nozzle, drivers side.
Anyone else experienced similar?

cold start smoking, usually is worn injectors and injector seals, either have them refurbished or replaced (new injector seals are a must whatever you decide to do)... if the VP44 fuelpump is extra noisy it might be the pump is on it's way out... mine is loud but it passed a complete test by a specialist.
also it is an older type diesel engine make sure you have fresh glowplugs (should aid cold starts way better than old ones) and clean the intake and egr valve from all the soot that it has collected, while you are removing the injectors since you have to take the intake apart to get to them.
