Default Car Still Not On Road!

After having Vectra off the road for nearly 6 months, I am losing it rapid with VX. To cut long story short, Veccy needs new gearbox caused by coolant in gearbox. Have been fobbed off by Dealer and VX Customer Care. As a last resort decided to cut my losses and pay for new gearbox. Dealer said they do not have the expertise or equipment to change box. By this time I have steam coming out of ears!! Decided to ring Customer Care tomorrow and tell them I am going to Watchdog. I am sure that they would not want anymore bad publicity concerning Vectra or VX.
Have had Vauxhall's for 16 years and have always found them to be reliable (which is why I stuck with them) but have decided that my love affair with Vauxhall's is over and the wife can have her Audi A4.

Vauxhall know full well that this is a known problem with the car.
Persue them for help with costs.

Yep as above, there was a recall I think about a seal that fails allowing coolent into the auto box. Keep on VX Customer care. Not knowing how old your car is or the milage I'd expect them to pay for some of the work. As for a VX main dealer saying they cannot do the work as they employ monkeys, Deffo cause for a letter of complaint.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Car is (53) 3.2 V6 43,000 on clock. Have only done just over 2,000 miles in it since I bought it. Don't like to drive it in case I make problem worse and it will let you down in traffic. Will only pull away in 2nd - you can manually shift it to 5th with a horrendous crunch. Have been having this fight for months. Took it back to place where I bought it and they put a new speed sensor on it and reset the computer which worked for about 10 miles until the car warmed up. This happened 4 times until I found this site and found out the true reason for all this. Will try Customer Care again in a minute to see if I get any further,
    Cheers,
    Dave

With that milage and age, I would expect VX to offer some sort of payment. 43K is not a good service length for a main component. It always helps to have the service manager behind your case too, but from what you said, they seem useless!

    Hi All,
Guess what? I have been on the road in the Veccy. Bought myself a Fault Code Reader and scanned and cleared all the codes that were on there. (Touch wood) it is going like a dream. Bombed up and down the motorway and it seems Ok. Do any of you think that having the seal done is enough to 'cure' my gearbox problem? Vx did not clear codes when they gave car back to me which is why the error code was still on there. (Aparently it's £85 for them to do that and it wasn't listed on my invoice!).
    Cheers,
    Dave

The problem you have is coolant in the gearbox, I 100% guarantee it.
You can also clear the fault by switching the ignition on then off then on again.
The seals have failed. The fault will come back. The ONLY remedy is a new gearbox, seals and cooler. The gearbox is £2500 plus fitting.
Press VX, do not let them get away with it. I did. The refused to extend my warranty but gave me £500 towards a 3rd party one when my original one expired.
    Good luck.

This Vectra isn't a good model tbh, the suspension is weak, as is the flywheel, windscreen.DPF,Inlet manifold and the aircon, lets hope the new offering is better.

    Thanx Mate,
Was hoping that having had the seal fixed that I might have got away with any major damage to the gearbox. Every time it threw a wobbler I didn't drive it (only to go to garage where I bought it, or to Vx). When Vx did recall work on seals two weeks ago they failed to clear code P0715 so car only had 2nd & 5th. Since I cleared code myself it appears (touch wood) to be Ok. Do you think I should drive it around a bit and see how it goes or pursue the new gearbox route? Also, got in touch with a gearbox place in Portsmouth last week and the fella told me he could recondition the box for £1500 and give me a 3 year warranty. Have been fighting so long with Vx etc that I thought this might be my best option.
    Cheers,
    Dave

I wonder if they've replaced the gearbox fluid as part of the recall work? Once the fault was cleared and the gearbox out of emergency mode (2nd/5th only) it may appear OK.

Not clearing the codes is just daft - for a VX dealer it takes seconds with the Tech 2 so it just sounds as if that dealer is plain useless.

If the fluid was contaminated then other damage will have been done to the gearbox which may now be masked by new fluid. If I were in your position I'd be writing to VX customer care detailing the problem and saying you hold them responsible if the gearbox dies due to fluid contamination problems. May not get you anywhere but you always have the option of a recon.
