    Default Ethanol and Methanol

I've stuck this thread here to get as much attention as possible as I need input from someone who knows a lot about chemicals!

As you may know I've fitted a water/methanol injection kit to a Mondeo diesel and I've bought a kit now to fit to mine (hopefully arriving on the 2nd of Jan). Methanol seems very troublesome to get hold of and is more corrosive than ethanol.

So I'm looking at the possibility of ethanol injection, more specifically, bioethanol. From what I read, I believe that ethanol is as stable as methanol so should not cause pre-detenation problems but can I use a water ethanol mix as I would a water methanol mix?

In fact i would be looking to mix bioethanol with windscreen washer fluid so I could use the washer bottle at least for the time being as a reservoir. Does anyone with a good knowledge of said chemical know if this would be potentially problematic or dare i say, dangerous?

So methanol has a much higher flash point... What temp would be present in the cylinder prior to ignition?

Just checked and the auto ignition temp of diesel is 210 C, which is lower than that of ethanol or methanol.

ethyl is far more of a risk to use
drag strip cars use this more due to them having less fuel in them to do there runs
when ethyl burns its far harded to put the fire out due to its lower flash point

Methanol is used in indy carts in the us it has a higher flash point so is safer to use in larger amounts
the drawback to Methanol is that you can't see the flame

It's not the flash point I'm interested in apparently, the flash point is the point at which sufficient vapor is released from a substance to ignite. What I am interested in is the auto-ignition point, the point at which the substance will ignite in liquid form I believe. Everything seems to be higher than diesel? but diesel has a high flash point so you could leave it sitting around and it wouldn't produce enough fumes to ignite very easily.

I recon it might be a bit late now so I'll wait till the morning but it looks good to me at the moment.

I may have got slightly confused by this but if its being sprayed in then isn't going to be atomized anyway? Which means you'd only really concerned with the flash point Nutron? If its the safety side of it being sloshed around in the washer bottle then the higher the auto ignition is again ok? I think I may have had too much Christmas spirit!!!
