    Default Brand new t.v. broken, advice required.

    Took the inlaws to comet today to buy a new tv. They chose a philips 37 inch lcd £699 got it home, tuned it in, everything ok then after half hour tv screen goes black only sound on. read the manual but couldnt get screen on. Then phoned up the help line and was told they would send out an engineer to do a repair, they aid no way was it been repaired its only 3 hours old im taking back to the shop, then the girl from comet help line hung up. Took it back to the shop where the guy done a test on it and said everything was ok and would we like to go round the back and see it working. Took the tv back home, set it back up everything ok for half hour then screen goes black again, By this time its 6pm and shop is closed. So maybe someone could tell us where we stand, can they demand a refund, exchange the tv, they do NOT want a new tv repaired,
    any help would be much appreciated.

    Do NOT allow them to repair it.
    Demand a replacement, if need be get them to run it for the time it takes to fail.
    This link;

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/acts/a...40035_en_1.htm

    takes you to the legislation, Sale & Supply of Goods Act 1994.

    This will tell you all you need to know, but basically goods sold must be of satisfactory quality and good for the purpose intended. So if your TV doesnt work then I would suggest it's not suitable for the purpose!

    They should replace it, the TV is not fit for the purpose it was bought for.
