anyone got any car crash stories they'd like to share

have you ever been sat in a car, hesitating to get out and inspect the damage in fear of how bad you dinged your pride and joy?

thats a bit depressing for a sunday night!

I remember having to brake heavily to avoid going into a van that suddenly stopped in front of me - I heard skid noises - looked in my mirror to see a Carlton going into me!. Got out and I was at the front of 6 cars that had all gone into the back of each other! Luckily all minor dents, no one hurt and I believe the person at the back had to pay for the lot! (everyone said they got pushed into the vehicle in front!)

Got snotted by a HGV on the M62 slip-road, he was cutting through on the hard shoulder and his back end swung round and connected with my front end (Im stationary), my front bumper went into orbit. Ended up going to court over it, Judge said "were you driving on the hard shoulder", HGV man said "yes, your honour", case closed. Biggest waste of time and money ever, cost 0000s...d**k.

A long time ago in my student days I had a lada samara and not much dosh!. I was in birmingham going around a blind bend, a bus was coming towards me. Nothing out of the ordinary i thought, but someone else thought different and decided to overtake the bus . I saw him before he saw me and I slammed the anchors on, I also had a passenger. Thoughts were - do i spin it around and risk the bus hitting the passenger side, or hit it straight on? the kerb was too hight to mount it. He slammed on as i did and we hit head on at about 5 mph. He had a mk2 escort which crumpled. I realised afterwards that under my bumper was an iron girder! . I drove away from that one with nothing more than a broken brake light pedal switch!... I'll never forget it.

Only ever had 3 bumps... 2 that didn't involve any other cars:

    1. reversing up a kerb and failing to notice the huge concrete lamp post behind me.... rear quarter, rear bumper and alloy wheel written off!! Cost me £790 to repair the lot!

    2. Driving to a mates house I crested a hill just after a summer shower and the front end slipped, so i lifted off, then the front wheels bit and kicked the back end out ... lift off oversteer is no fun when you don't expect it... I went side ways into a kerb at about 20mph... front subframe, 2 wheel bearings, wishbone, suspension track rods, steering rack etc etc etc... cost my insurers £1800!!!! The irony of it was that the kerb I hit was 50 yards up the road on the opposite side to the lamp post I had hit 12 months previously!!!!!

    3. Down hill being tailgated by a chav in an ageing mk4 Escort cossy.... I was too busy concentrating on him to see the van brake in front of me to turn right.... I anchored and my ABS worked like a charm.... needless to say the cossy was a little less than efficient with his braking and I got a new bumper out of it!!! (Which was nice as someone had scuffed my bumper in a supermarket car park 2 weeks previously!!!) I had to laugh though... the guy got out of the Essy and said "Sorry mate, my fault, my ABS didn't work!!!" "ABS on a D-reg Escort, I think not!" I replied... "Thats what they told me when I bought it"!!! Fool.

Quite a few years agowhen i started out driving i had a opel Kadett (Mk1 astra) only paid 200 quid for it brakes were about effective as chucking a anchor out yhe window. Needless to say one day coming to a roundabout near my home a slight bit too fast a Porsche suddenly coming accross me with all the experience of a learner lol slammed on the anchors and slammed into him putting a large crease down the side of his car. He only had it 2 days!!! Needless to say he said we didn't have to go through the insurance but after finding out it would cost over £2000 to repair i chose otherwise lol. Oooops.

Years ago I was driving from Cambridge to Oxford in pi55ing rain. I was taking a back route, in a hurry, when I came round a bend to find that Farmer Giles had left large lumps of his field all over the road.
Back end out to the left.. whoa! Out to the right ....Yikes! Wheeee.. crunch! Straight throught the hedge and into the field.
Everything went quiet, so I got out of the car to assess the damage. A bit bent around the front end (it was a Mk2 Cavalier), but it still looked reasonable, so I carefully nursed it across the ploughed field and back onto the road. "Oh, goody", I thought, "it's not too bad". then I braked, and the car turned left!
Closer inspection showed that the nearside wheel was about 1 inch from the back of the wheel arch, and was a bit, well, "loose"
I had to get the recovery truck out, and got a lot of hassle from work (it was a company car). I was OK, though!

about 2 months after passing my test I was waiting to turn right from a busy road, looked in my mirrors saw an old rover 213 bearing down towards me at 50+ in a 30 he was looking at his mate when he went into the back of my stationary Samba!!

2 months after that in my brand new clio went into the back of somebody in a traffic queue

One day travelling down 50mph duel carridgeway in teh Westfield when the bonnet which I hadn't secured properly suddenly rose up and then span off into the path of another car on the other side!! fortunatly it was just a glassfibre bonnett so not much damage!

just over 5 years ago coming round on of the main islands in brimingham took my exit but infornatly the van which went all the way round the outside of the island also wanted the same lane bye bye front near side wing.

not long after came round a sharpish bend in the ice when i need to brake suddenly, back came round and hid a roadside gpo box

Blimey I've had a lot of accidents

During a moment of stupidity after watching 2 fast 2 furious at the cinema when it was first released with a load of work mates we decided to re-make a scene taking the mick and had a friendly race which ended with me miss timing a roundabout in my new astra mk4 and smacking the o/s front wheel, which in turn bent the suspension leg back and made mince meat of my door mirror.

had it all repaired a week later then as i was driving off someone decided to drive into all the work that had just been fixed, only this time they done the door and the wing as well.

    not my proudest moment
