Fog lights

Right then. Lets not get this thread into an argument.
No doubt you have seen many cars with their "fog/driving" lamps on.
I for one find them them being used more as to say I have these extra lights so I will use them when I like.
I was under the imprestion that you could only use fog lights in "erm" fog, I also belive these lights have no beam direction so the light just goes forward, as to Driving lights.
I am under the impression they have "diffused" glass [like the old headlights] so the beam is not forwarded into the oncoming drivers eyes. Am I correct in saying these lights can be used for driving with just the side lights on? any sensible input would be appreciated.

Thought it was illegal unless it's foggy, but don't know the facts???

I must admit to using them more and more frequently, to compensate for the crap headlights. They do only seem to project a beam of light to the ground, around 2-3 metres in front of the car. I must also say that i have never had anyone flash in anoyance at me and never been stopped by the police etc for using them.........
Therfore, I class them more as driving lights than fog lights..

I flash people who have them on as it pi$$es me off, they are designed to project light underneath the fog so you can at least see in front of in bad conditions and make no difference at all in normal conditions. Not aimed at anyone it's just my view point on them

think you will find it is illegal to use fog lights when its not foggy or poor visibilty............but there again driving a veccie its always poor visibily lol having said thaat the firms van is a vauxall and the lights onthaat are cr4p

Rule 236 of the Highway code states

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

Guess that answers your question. I know that some Police forces have in the past had a Zero tolerance policy on people driving with Fogs on when not required.

As it says in the highway code, and if you do get stopped by the police then it is usually dealt with by way of £30 non endorsable fixed penalty notice.

I got done in my younger days for having my front fogs on.

I thought the car went faster if you had them on......well it does doesn't it??

Ed are you talking about front fogs ? think some people are getting mixed uo with rears.
