    Default BT Homehub alternative

Just a quick question really, our house cordless phones are looking a bit shabby and with the broadband router playing up every now and again I am in the market for both. Like the concept of the homehub but I am not on BT so was just wondering if anyone knew of something similar?
Have done a search and haven't found anything which surprised me. So unless someone pulls a rabbit from the hat, looks like I am getting two seperate devices.

    Cheers,
    Andy

Hi Andy, We've just changed from Sky because it was crap to BT, we have the new BT homehub, 4 homehub phones and BT vision, its the best ISP we've had so far, both sky and AOL capped my line at 512kps but BT has done some looking into this for me and my line is now rated at 6.5mb, not bad considering i live in the sticks around 5miles fromt he exchange.. The homehub phones are brilliant, You get a new broadband phone number so you can have them set up for either the broadband number, your existing number or both.. You can also have upto 3 calls going on at a time, we have ours set up so that an incoming call on either the existing number or the new broadband number rings the phones, and unlike our old bt dect phones they are very loud and crystal clear.. We get unlimited calls on the broadband number for about £5 a month. Can't you change your ISP to BT?

The only thing I dont like about the BT stuff is that its Ipod white which a) personally I think looks tacky and b) wont match any thing I have here.

I'm switching to BT in a matter of days ( I want BT Vision too ) - do you know BP if you can use normal phones with the BT Broadband Voice line in the same way as the home hub phones or are you stuck with em ?

i've had nothing but trouble with my home hub.

keeps losing the connection and lastnight i had to do a full reset of the firmware via the original cd.

    been stable since though.
must have been a faulty firmware update at some point.

I've had no probs with my homehub, in fact i've found it to be the best router i have used, got my desktop pc, laptop, Pda and Wii all connected wireless.

Terran, We have a normal phone plugged into the main socket and a fax, they use our normal existing number, and the homehub phones use both the BT and Broadband numbers, You simply press 5 on the homehub phones and it switches lines from broadband to bt, incoming calls on either number will ring if you set it up that way.. you can buy an adaptor that fits in the back of the home hub and use ordinary phones aswell.

The colour doesn't bother me as i use a lot of netgear equipment and that tends to be be white, its been the most stable router ive had, apparently its a thomson router, when i log into the router screen it says ive been connected for 18days @ 6.54mbs down and 455kps up, never seen anymore than connected for 2 days on sky or aol..

Bt vision is brilliant, takes a while to set up when 1st powered up but its quick once set up, My area isnt any good for freeview and our area switchover is 2011, but only got it for the Broadband TV, sports and films...

Cool... I may keep it for the desk when I need to make that urgent call. That been said I'm not 100% that I'm not going to use my existing ADSL2 router.
