Red face 2.0 DTI Glow Plugs Replacement

Could anyone enlighten me, I suspect my glow plugs are faulty as the spanner light comes on in the cold, but goes off after a while and doesn't come on if the engine is warm plus it had a full service less than a month ago.Cars done 58K, so I reckon they need changing anyway. But I need to know the part numbers and how to take the plugs out, do I need any special tools, do I need to wtahc out for anything. Any assistance will be appreciated..Is there a how to ???

Does the car still start up ok from cold? If so, then the glowplugs are probably ok.

Water in the fuel filter can put the spanner light on. Maybe they didn't change it at the service, or because of the cold weather, it's got some in again.

Yes it starts up fine, but wouldn't the light stay on all the time or whenever I start the car, if theres water in the fuel filter. How would I check ??

On my old Vec B, when the glow plugs were at fault the eml would come on until the engine had a little bit of heat in it.

I haven't replaced them on my Vec C as yet, but i am certain they are as easy to change as my previous B, Zaffy dti & Astra dti.

I don't have part nos. to hand or socket sizes.
But a deep socket set & ratchet is all that should be needed, it's just like replacing a spark plug.

Undo the plastic plug connector/cover for each plug.
    Remove plug & replace.
Its not a hard task, just take care with plugs that are stubborn, you don't want them snapping off or stripping the threads whilst re doing them.

This may be a dumb question, but how does the plastic cover come off. Its like a spark plug lead and the it rotates on the glow plug. I tried to yank it off, but it didn't want to move. Do I need to give it a squeeze to unlock it ? Or is it a specialist tool ??

Don’t yank the thing !!! You'll break the clips !!!
There’s little clips on the side, you have to squeeze them and they release and it pops off.
Try the lead gearbox end first, it's a lot easier to see and get to.

PS: I am not 100% sure, but I think the 2.0l is similar to the 2.2l, so you might wana read this as well. (particularily post 9 by me)

i've just done this, the clips are very stiff (in the cold anyway) so i got an old pair of long nosed pliers, bent in the tips and it made the job really easy, you just apply pressure under the very top of the connector lead

    cleared my spanner light too
