People,

Fuel economy on my 2.2Dti Signum is down after recent fitting of OE brake pads and discs all round and a pair of Michelin Primacy's (Design spec 215/50/17) on the front.

Garage put it back on the ramp and assure me nothing's binding although there is a bit of heat in the wheels even after city driving so could there be just enough friction to be knocking 10% off my mpg?

I typically get about 41.5 without even thinking about it and I'm now struggling to beat 37 while being careful.

Performance feels a little flat and I've had suggestions that 'MAF' sensors and 'EGR' valves can 'go off' at the mileage on mine - 49k.

Also, the turbo seems to get a little sooty on and around its body - might this be a big bill on its way? Performance doesn't seem to be quite as good as it once was but maybe I'm starting to imagine problems.

Haven't worked on an engine since MK2 Golf was the current model so apologies in advance for any stupid questions!

Loss of power and sooty smoke - sounds like a split hose from the intercooler to me. If air is escaping from one of the hoses there isn't enough to mix with the fuel, hence not all the fuel burns, hence the sooty smoke from exhaust.
