Hay mate was just about to post the same thing it will be a boost valve or pipe mate of mine works at cars and has told me its a common fault.

My problem is the car is also using a lot of fuel does anyone know if this would be linked to the boost valve going in the car???

How is the car when you give it some beans away from the lights matey?

It's a hard one to diagnose to be honest, it could be a number of things. As the car's jumped into 'limp home mode' you'll have a fault code that can be read at the dealership.

Ive had a similar problem and posted on another thread. Took my car into an indy with the latest computer tech and they said that there was no fault code stored. Apparently the code is being wiped out when I resart the engine. I have to take it back on Friday for another check. They say that I may have to drive with the computer connected and hope the fault happens during that time. This will then according to the garage display the fault. Anyone got any suggestions??

Is this an independant garage matey? If the engine management light has come there will be a fault code stored matey.

I think I'm right in saying that any fault older than 50 engine starts (not sure if this figure is right) will be wiped from memory.

My Astra never recorded a fault code, same engine. It would light the EML when slowing down for traffic lights. Even with the EML still on, the Tech2 wouldn't read the code...

Ive been to the garage. They connected the computer and I drove around for an hour. Eventually the car started to splutter, spanner light on, I slowed down and stopped and the engine then started to tick over as normal with spanner light off. I pulled away and its back to normal!!! Still no fault code recorded. Ive spoken to a mate of mine who is a mechanic and he is recommending a new fuel filter to start with. Any advance on this from anyone??
