    Default Now this is impressive...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsmiIeAkE-o

It starts a block of solid metal, and it ends as an Engine Block for a V8 Engine....

Its 10 mins long, but worth it!

Looks like a promo vid for the machining centre to demonstrate it's features. Why would anyone machine a block from solid?? Unless they are for very specialised applications.

The material looks very soft too.

Impressive viewing, but average for a modern M/C centre these days.

I wonder how many hours that took including the cnc programming.

Maybe you just answered your own question?! Either that or it's simply to show off the capabilities of the machine, which it does somewhat! lol

    Perchance an all alloy engine?

As Ste said probably a promo/demo that would run on machine shows etc. I'm no engineer so whether it's useable as an engine I don't know, but still very impressive.

Many (many!) years ago I used to work for this company http://www.hardinge.co.uk - and even then there were some very impressive demo routines for the CNC lathes.
