Default Are Glass's Price Guide's Accurate...

When i was in the Motor Trade 13 years ago, Glass's were the one's to use, Is this still the case??

I tell you why i ask, Off the back of Silver V struggling to sell his 2.2DTi SRi for what he wants for it, out of boredom i decided to see how much mine was valued at by Glass's, so paid the £3.50 too see what they reckoned...

    The results surprised me...

    £6000!!

I reckoned they were not worth any more than £5k!!

I don't know how accurate Glass's is but when I bought my Vec in August the dealers were still using Glass's guide for part ex prices.

In my opinion those prices look about right.

Although I expect a dealer would not be inclined to offer you the best part exchange price.

As i say, i am not looking to sell mine, so it doesnt really matter, I just did it out of curiosity.

All Guides like Glasses and Parkers etc are exactly that Guides....

Take my Delta according to the guides its worth about 7 to 8 grand... you try finding a really good one for that..

I always get nervous when a dealer walks out with one in his hand or consults it have way through a deal....

I did the same as Ben the other week and paid the £3.50 for a Glasses guide price. However all figures came out around £300 lower than the Vx website Glasses guide - I wouldnt take too much notice of that.

Also, when I've recently asked for a part ex price on mine at a dealer they've offered far lower than the glasses guide price, and they never even looked at the car. They said they use glasses guide but I dont know which one cos it wernt the estimate I'd been given

I'm sure you all know this its not just down the book price of your car.

How much is the dealer making on the new car he is selling you , the time of year he may have a lot of stock on his forecourt can he off load your car fast he may have someone wanting to buy the make and model of your old car.

I always go to 3 dealers but I always make sure I know the book price of the car before I go and the thing I hate is when they won't tell how much they are offering for your car ..... Well Sir the cost of change is going to be !!!!

I used the VX glasses guide for mine when I went to the dealer a few weeks back. He offered me over a grand less than the glasses guide price. When I questioned it I was told they don't use glasses guide....... odd as they did when I wanted to buy one from them last year. Things change, All of it is a con anyway. As said before, it all depends on what your trading in, how easy they think they can sell it and what your buying.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
