    Unhappy Christmas, not so merry!!!

Strange how things have a habit of kicking you in the teeth just when you think things are on the up.
On Wednesday as most will know i had my new car and i am VERY happy with it I have been a bit under the weather for the last few days and this really cheered me up. Then i get a call to say my Mum had been rushed into hospital with pains in her side. We were not too alarmed as she has suffered with rheumatoid arthritis for years and spends a lot of time in pain which she has learned to live with
At lunchtime yesterday she was sent for a CT scan to find the cause of the pain. We went to visit after she got back to the ward to be met by the doctor who said he needed to operate IMMEDIATELY! We obviously asked the reason for the urgency and we were given a look which said it all.
I have to say, the following few hours were traumatic but the NHS has to be praised for the way things kicked into action from then on. We just sat an watched as people from everywhere took over and she was prepped for surgery. We were sent home as it was to be a very long night and had a call at approx 10pm to say the operation was over and she was now in Intensive Care.
We can't go down there yet due to the nature of the ITU dept as we will be "in the way" I do feel i need to be there for her but as they said, she is in good hands. We only live 5 minutes from the hospital so i don't feel too distant from her but it still hurts like hell not being there.
From what we can gather she has has part of the colon removed and has been fitted with a colostomy bag which she is going to hate, but, if it saves her life it is a small price to pay.

Sorry to go on but i have to write it down or i will explode. If i'm not around much over the next few days then you'll understand why.

Have a good Christmas all and if any of you say any prayers this holiday, please say one for me

    Blimey, what a trauma.
Sorry to hear that your Mum's been through this, mate. I can sympathize with how you're feeling.
You probably wouldn't gain anything from going to ICU -she'll probably be heavily sedated, and the amount of plumbing that she'll be connected to will scare the pants off you.
My Dad's had a colostomy for around 20 years, and, while he took a while to adapt to it, he's now fine. the upside was that he doesn't get piles any more!

You'll be amazed how fast she gets over the operation, though she won't be doing much jogging for a while.

And if you feel the need for someone to listen -we're always here.

    Phil

Why does stuff like this always happen over the festive period. Thinking of it in a positive way Tony, you have the best present for Christmas - your Mum.

Take care of you and yours matey.
