Default Wont start when below 1C

    Hi

When the temp drops below 1c my 2.2 DTI will not start. I turn the key, let glow plugs do their work and then start the engine. the engine runs for about 10 seconds and then dies. will not start again after that. It happened last week but i thought it was because i was low on fuel so pushed it onto a flat area and left it until next day which happened to be warmer and the car started after 10-15 turns. This morning is the first time ive tried to start it when temp below 1c since then but this time there is half a tank of fuel.

When the temp is above 1c the car starts fine! Any ideas gents?

not got a little moisture/water in the vacumn lines have you?.. if that freezes then you won't get the vacumn signals down the 'lines'...The DTi's are a vacumn controlled engine, so are sensitive to problems with these lines..

I'd try blowing the lines out to make sure they are dry...

    Any fault lights?/codes stored?

The spanner light is on since it did it last week but has been going out once the car has been running for 10 seconds or so. need to find out what the stored code is i suppose.

There definately is a link with when its starting to freeze

to add to this the car has just done the same thing on saturday at 8c. However it gradually started after a min or so of turning over with me depressing the accelerator and then it was fine. black smoke city tho.

i think i need to get the codes read and take it from there. a friend of mine has a reader he believes will work on my car.

    anyone had anything similar happen?

ok no codes stored but spanner light comes on when cold starting and then goes off on throttle blip or after a minute. So gonna do the glow plugs as suggested by Green Growler.

Does anyone know what's the torque setting for the glow plugs? '04, 2.2 DTI?

    will keep you posted.

I didn't have the manual, and as I said in the other thread I used NGK plugs and they have the torque setting they recommend for them printed on the side of the box, which was 15-20NM. This is NGK's setting though, not Vx's.
