what do you trust most. fuel gauge or trip computer?
i always try and fill up within a mile or two when the trip computer says 30miles left, never had any problems so far (touch wood)
Fuel gauge is quite good on my new one. Once it gets past that sticky point at the top down to the 3/4 level, I'm very confident in it's readings. Most times when I fill up it's as good as bang on but I don't like to let it fall low for any period of time, I always top it right up.
Fuel gauge; the trip computer depends to much on the fuel consumption during the last period - it is only accurate if the consumption is more or less constant: you can have big surprises if you have driven long time at a constant speed and end up in an enormous traffic jam
It was the computer for me until tonight. Had 20 miles left in tank and put a fiver in. Range didn't change even when the fuel light went off. It got down to 6 miles until it sorted itself out and went up to 48........
If you fill your tank right to the brim and then fill up again when you are dangerously in the red - which according to a thread on this forum is half way through - check the OBC for the amount of fuel you have consumed, that way you will know when to fill up for sure. This is because the OBC measures the flow rate of the fuel.
But to answer your quuestion, trust the range meter for the reason I stated above regarding the red zone on the fuel gauge!!

Yes, the OBC does measure the flow rate of fuel through the injectors, BUT it's only as accurate as measuring the weather with a bit of string.
Virtually every time I fill up the trip computer tells me I've used more fuel than the tank can actually hold.....
Fuel gauge for me every time. Fill up when the light starts to flash and I know I've got about 10 litres left.
Definiatly the fuel guage. No contest TBH
Trip computer...I can only dream about a trip computer!!!
It's fuel gauge or nothing for me
