Hi all,
As above, how easy would it be to change the drivers door lock mechanism myself? (im a newb to all this but eager and willing to try!)
If you dont want to know why just ignore this last bit...
I am having a problem which many people seem to have had on these forums, my car thinks that my drivers door is open when it is not. I have read through numerous threads on here and it seems its a problem with the door switch (which on vec c's this is an electrical switch embedded in the door lock mechanism as opposed to a physical button/switch on the door pillar on vec b's)
This causes a number of problems (lights stay on, warning light on dash stays on, it beeps when pulling away and the doors wont lock!!!) I have managed to get round the doors not locking temporarily by removing a fuse and locking them manually (thanks to mickontherun for that)
I have the door card off and have made sure there are no loose connections anywhere (including on the multi-plug thing in the door hinge). The next thing I will try is adjusting the striker plate out a bit (the T40 screws that hold it in place are a bu**er to get loose!) Although if this does fix it I reckon it will only be temporary because after having a good look inside the lock mechanism I have noticed something which may be the cause of the problem...
Deep inside the lock itself I have noticed a small rubbery stopper type thing which is square in shape and looks as if it has a groove/split going vertically down the middle. It is in the exact position to make contact with the metal part of the striker plate. Now, on my drivers door the right hand side of this rubbery thing looks extremely worn to the point where it appears almost crumbled away. All the other doors appear normal (if slightly indented from contact with the striker plate)
This says to me that a) This is the micro switch/door sensor thing which is causing all the problems and b) I will need an entire new door lock mechanism to fix it as it is embedded in the mechanism itself.
Apologies for the long rambling post (if you read this far ) and again (as above) is it easy to change this myself?
Thanks
