to replace the discs, once the caliper is off, and the pads are out, you'll need to remove the two torx bolts that hold the caliper carrier on.. these will be very tight ( loctited in) so will need a big bar to help you..the rears you should be able to get the disc off by knocking if off the hub and it should thread out of the caliper carrier. As ever, sand the hub flange up to remove any rust before mounting the new discs, and degrease all surfaces of the new discs before fitting them to the car ( use brake cleaner spray).. wire brush the caliper carriers, and replace with loctite on the bolts.. torque up to FFT.. ( 180Ft lbs) then just reassemble, as per the how-2's....

I was about to change the pads on my 03 1.8 veccy and noticed heavy uneven wear on the outer sides of the pads. After inspecting the discs I found they were in a very sorry state with a big lip around the outer edge protruding about 10-20mm inwards

Anyway, does anyone know the size of the spanner/ratchet I need to remove the star headed (torx) bolts that hold the caliper on?
    thanks, Tony

hi i noticed you said you are doing the rear also.... dont do what i did and said to the mrs its a five min job!! just start dinner and i will be back in a bit!!..(54plate dti)

not sure if you know (i didnt) that when you push the rear caliper piston back in you have to rurn the piston at the same time you push it back. now you can do it two ways one.. use two pairs of grips and turn and push at the same time or do what i done and found someone whe had the right tool to do it.. (oh and just so you know my dinner was cold when i got the job done)

Don't get me started on the rears! I done the rears a while ago and boy what a pain they were! First i never realised i needed the wind back tool until I had the calliper out. Then when I ordered the tool it was the wrong size as the veccy c if different to most other vauxhalls and it was a real pain finding the right one. Then, just for good measure, I ruined the thread in the calliper for the bleed nipple and had to replace that as well All in all nearly 2 weeks but if I done it again, with the correct tools to hand, less than an hour ;-)

Oddly every used veccy I have bought needed new front discs for one reason or another
