I have to say you can save fuel by using cruise where you can because the engine runs at its most efficent then but I have to say even if this works its dam complicated all things considered.

The nearest I can think of as well is that car that Jeramy Clarkson showed off the hidden 'press review' function to make the car work better.... but thats it.

Strangly enough I have noticed this apparent phenominum and have tried it on the rolling road. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to be a real increase in power/acceleration. I believe it is because your brain expects the car to decelerate as you take your foot off, so the brain is confused by the continuing acceleration.

You have to get up pretty early to find something I haven't tried. If you really want to try something scary...

    1) get upto 70mph on a major road and set the cruise control
    2) cancel the cruise and don't re-engauge it again
    3) wait until you can slow down to about 20mph in 2nd gear
    4) Make sure it's clear ahead and hit the resume button (down)
    5) now wet your pants as the car tries to get back to 70mph in 2nd!!!!

No problem in a GSi, in fact the only way to join a motorway is to floor it in 2nd all the way to 70

I can get to around 55mph and that's it but it gets there fast enough... actually at the moment it doesn't get there fast enough, I got in and turned the engine on today and the wheels started spinning just in anticipation traction control my butt, just a little flashy light to tell you what you already know.

It is an illusion, the same happens on my Astra, your accelerating but ask to cruise to keep up, it is not giving more power, you think it is but it is the un natural sensation of accelerating without touching the throttle.

Switch it over to the manual mode, put it in 2nd, then press the resume button....it will still change up before damaging the engine

    Might try that myself.......
