    Default What an amazing engine

Not a Vx but BMW. Take a look at these stats for the petrol 3.0 6 cylinder powerplant as fitted to new BMW's

    BMW 330:

    Power: 272 bhp
    Torque: 236 lbs ft
    0-60 in 6.1s
    Top Speed 155mph

    Urban (mpg) 28.5
    Extra-urban (mpg) 50.4
    Combined (mpg) 39.2

    CO2 emissions (g/km) 173

So 39.2 combined for a petrol 3.0 putting out 272bhp. Simply stunning. Just goes to show what is posible.

Also with emissions at 173 you wont have to pay the high rate of road tax. Maybe diesel isnt the future

VXR performance without the VXR running costs (shame they are £32K new )

Well my 1.9CDTI gets about 45mpg average, and produces 118.4bhp per litre. 0-60 is under 7 seconds (Honda Civic Type-R is 6.6 officially and mine left it miles behind) and top speed is over 150mph on the clock but I've never been further.

If the 3ltr twin turbo BMW produced the same bhp/ltr as mine, it would be a 355.2bhp monster.

I'm sure it could if it was tuned, seeing as that's what you're comparing.

A good friend has just got one of the Twin Turbo 335 Diesel's on a 57 plate, By all accounts an absolutely awesome bit of kit....

Not been out in it yet, but those who have reckon it pulls the same from 60-155 as it does from 0-60!

Not sure of the performance figures on it, but it will put an awful lot of petrol cars to shame!

Site I'm looking at says 286bhp at 4400rpm which is very impressive, must have a very large second turbo to hit max power up there. Torque is only 428lbft though, I would have expected more but again that's from 1750rpm so nice small turbo along with the V6 getting the torque out early.

What is most impressive is that it says, it hits 428lbft at 1750 and still kicks out 341lbft at 4400rpm. Haven't seen any graphs though so I don't know how smooth the transfer from one turbo to the next is?

Corker of an engine the new 330, yes. I don't think many drivers who enjoy those 270 horses get their average anywhere near 39mpg though - mpg plummets when the power is used. BMW have really developed their VANOS system to a new level this time though
Amazing that their mainstream 3.0L gives nearly as much power as their M series 3.0 from just 10 years ago.

That's why I love these new diesels - they go like stink, you can pretty hard and still get great mpg.
Mine seems incapable of going below 40mpg so far
