    Default noisy car

since owning my 03 vectra for 6 weeks there is a constant noise inside the car from the wheels/tyres, so i took it into the dealers that i got it from and was told that"alot of vectras do it and it was normal".
when you have the stereo on you cant hear but as soon as you turn it off theres a constant droning/wheel noise from the rear of the car.
the tyres on the car are michelin primacy hp on the front 215/55/16
the rear are drivers side pirelli p6000 215/55/16
the rear passenger side firestone firehawk tz 200
all have between 6.5 and 6.0mm
has anyone any idea if it could be the rear tyres that are the problem because the front seems fine.
dont want to just change the rears really with good tread on as they are still an exspensive tyre only to find the noise is still there.
really annoying ive never had this much noise inside a car before from the tyres/wheels.

i thought bearing but when it went in to the dealer he said everything was fine.(if they bothered to look that is) it only happens when you go above say 10mph, its like being a kid again and having lollipop sticks in my spokes.
i think its tyre related as you can hear it droning round and round as the wheel is in motion.(very annoying)
i know you really want the same brand tyre on each wheel or at least the same 2 the on back and the same 2 on the front but ive had different make tyres on different wheels on other cars without any noise.

first thing i would do is get 2 same brand tyres on the rear, 2 different ones can cause a lot of noise

most bearing noise won't be audible untill more than 10mph in my experince. Try driving on the motorway and if when you change lanes the noise changes as more or less pressure is put on each wheel it is likly to be a bearing

Maybe someone on here that lives near you wouldnt mind swapping your wheels with theirs for a few minutes. See if its wheel/tyre related or something else.
Maybe just swap 2 at a time, see if its front or rear.

Does the sound change as you go over different surfaces?, best place to try is usually county boundaries, since each county is responsible for it's roads, quite often, the tarmac changes on the boundary line.

If the noise changes, it's a tyre issue, if it remains constant, then a bearing.

cheers for replys, the noise seems to remain constant but i will try that tomorrow to be sure, i will also try changing the front and rear wheels over to see if that makes any differnce.
if no difference i will try dealers again in the new year as it must be more than tyre related.

How about swapping each wheel with the spare, and testing it each time?
    Maybe just one rogue tyre

yeh never thought of that, worth a try, neighbours are going to think im mad but who cares if it cures/indentifies the problem.
