Default Have I got a mouse under the bonnet ?

When starting the car on these cold mornings, there is a funny noise coming from under the bonnet - squeek squeek squeek. It disappears once the engine is warm.

I am not mechanically minded in any shape or form, and I was just wondering if anyone had any guesses. I know I should take it to the Vauxhall garage, but haven’t really got time to do this before the big bearded one arrives next week.

The car is only 18 month old / 20,000 miles – Vectra 1.9 cdti 150 auto.

    Thanks.

Alternator bearing????? Give it a spray with WD 40 see if the noise goes away. Try not to get it on the belt.

    Default Thanks guys

Thanks everyone for the speedy responses. I will be interested to know how mark gets on with the astra - mine is definitely only happening on cold starts at the moment. I will wait until Christmas is out of the way, and then pay a visit to the dealer.

    Happy Christmas !

    Default Update - mystery oil

As an update to the original post, I have just noticed that I have an oil leak! Not sure if it is connected, but have managed (amazingly) to get it booked in at the dealer tomorrow. I will keep you posted....

Vauxhall have given the car back to me with oil still dripping. They say it is coming from the vacum pump, and the part will not be available until the New Year. Can anyone explain what the vacuum pump is ? Will I be ok using the car over the Christmas period as long as I keep checking the oil level ? (the dealer response to the same question was vague at best - 'should be ok, just keep an eye on it').

With regards the original post re the mouse - they couldn't find any fault...

Went in to the dealers today, had a tech look at the Astra for the mouse, they have said the problem with the squeak is the tensioner pulley starting to fail on the alternator (not sure what else that belt runs)

Their is a new adapted tensioner pulley available for the CDTI 150 engine , all ordered ready for next week,

it started on cold starts and progressed to 24:7 so keep your ears open, the way they can tell is the pulley doesn't run true if you look at it running, he showed me and you can see the tensioner doesn't run symmetrically on the belt,
