Default Warning to 18" and 19" Wheel owners.

I had the Vectra serviced today and apart from both steering arms needing replacing, all is ok at 53500 miles.

I was discussing the arms, now there are two types available :-

One for 16 and 17" wheels
The other is an uprated version for cars fitted with 18 & 19" wheels.

When a Vectra is built, whether it be SXi SRi Design or Elite, if 18 or 19" wheels are specified, not only do you get uprated suspension, but the steering is uprated.

Just a word of warning that if you have fitted 18 or 19" wheels, the standard arms are not up to the job apparently and will wear prematurely.

Abyss for example will not have a problem as he had 18's originally, uprateing to 19's is not a problem as he has the steering upgrade.

A car with 17's and upgrading to 18" or 19" may have a problem.

Just thought I would share this with you.

I can't comment on after market wheels as they all have different weights etc.

But Vauxhall obviously feel this is needed for their wheel upgrades.

wonder if they will do this under warranty for mine as it had the 18's fitted after i got the car. Might explain why it seems so rough over the bumpy stuff

I doubt they will cover it to be honest, once they check the part numbers they won't match that it has 18" wheels now.

To be honest Nick I would not worry too much, after all I am doing 30,000 miles+ per year, so mine is bound to take that much more hard work.

If I was doing 10,000 miles a year, personally it would not stop me buying 18" or 19" wheels, I would worry about it it the arms started to knock, the idea of this thread was to make people aware of the potential problem.

Besides, Nick if your arms ever started to knock, you could always put on my 17's to get the work done under warranty, then there are no questions asked

To be honest I knew all cars that were specced with 18's or 19's had SRi suspension, but was not aware of the steering mods.
