Lap Top is getting hot....

As the title says, My Dell Lap Top keeps getting excessively hot, to the extent that it keeps tripping out from time to time and turning itself off.

So i have just bought one of these to see if it makes any difference to it or not.

Anyone ever had to use a cooling fan and what were they like, Did they do the job, or a waste of money??

the fans on my laptop run continuously mate but its never cut out so far TBH i think its cos mines is fooked lol

Get the nozzle of the hoover into the vents, there will be a build up of dust around the fans reducing the efficiency.

Had same problem with my toshiba and the wifes acer, stripped them down and found the cooling fins blocked with fluff. if you put the laptop down on any fabric it sucks the dust out of it including clothes etc (ie sat on your lap) it takes a long time to accumulate like a year but after stripping and cleaning all is ok now. the gaps in the cooling fins are so small it is very easy for them to get blocked. try blowing out with a can of air duster if you dont feel confident stripping it down. also one other thing that can cause it to run hot is if the battery is knackered when the battery life gets down to 10 mins or less it requires constant charging instead of trickle charge which causes more heat from the charging circuit. i had one for repair recently an old medion which the battery was dead wouldn't even run for 5 seconds without power and was clicking (probably dead short) this caused the fan to run constantly, just removed the battery (as it was the internal type) and it ran normally afterwards.

yeah, unscrew the back cover and get a can of compressed air and blow all the fluff out of it, it should run a lot cooler after I've had to do the same

most, if not all computer shops will sell it, there about £5 quid a tin or off the interweb for a bit cheaper

omg - dont do that.................

the air being sucked through statically charges and can blow the cpu etc.......

if its out of warranty, earth yourself and remove the back, make sure the fans are spinning un-restricted. then do a clean.

MY ADVICE IS DONT GIVE ADVICE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING.
