    confused Another wireless question

My laptop crashed a couple of days ago and I had to reinstall Windows XP. Losing all my pictures and files.

Anyway got windows installed but cannot find the "find wireless networks" icon. I know It was there before but its not there since I installed XP.

Do i need to reinstall it again (XP) or do i need another driver. I have switched the wireless button on, if anyone thinks I haven't.

    Any ideas welcome please.....

Control Panel>Network Connections. Double click on Wireless Network Connection under 'LAN or High-Speed Internet'. Then you'll see the View Wireless Networks button and you can get connected there.

If you also right click on the Wireless Network Connection under 'LAN or High-Speed Internet and chose Properties, click the 'Show icon in notification area when connected' and you'll see when it's connected to the wireless network in the task bar.

check device is installed - my computer (left click) properties - hardware - device manager.

Any icon showing a red cross is disabled or a yellow cross not installed.

Probably just needs the drivers re-installing. Try linking an ethernet cable to the internet then search for drivers if you havent got a disk.

What make and model is the laptop?

If you go to the manufacturer's website you can normally download the appropriate drivers.

If its a Lenovo you'll be able to download an automatic driver installer.

Thats if you have one, or if its a more recent laptop you've actually burned the recovery disks! (the amount of my clients that haven't...)
