Default Strange BC miles left thing

I got my miles left down to 12 last night on the BC.
I was a bit short of time this morning so instead of filling up before I went to the dentists I put 5 litres in from my standby can. It did not register and BC still showed 12 miles left. From home to the dentists to the petrol station it dropped to 4 miles left ! Even though I knew that the additional 5 litres would get me another 45 ish miles, it still gave me that running out of petrol soon feeling.
It went up to 380 miles left when I filled up - but I wonder what it would have shown if I had dome more than another 4 miles ?

The range goes on how you have driven for the last ten miles or so. If you've ragged it from cold you can probably get your sig down to around 10mpg, so your extra gallon of fuel isn't going to make much difference! I guess you must have been ragging it a bit, otherwise your range would be much higher than 380 after a fill up, mine will normally go to 460-480 after a fill up.

Good point and correct but sorry, that's not the point of my post.

The BC was still showing current mpg of around 30+ mpg, it was cold with short journey.

The point I was making was that even after putting 5 litres in, it was not enough to register, so the miles to go did not move at all. It stayed at 12

    - actually I wonder if it was because I put the fuel in while the engine was running as I needed to defrost the car.

The miles to go always shows as about 390 when I fill up, then it creeps up as I drive. Last 2500 miles I have averaged 33.5 mpg and around (I recollect) 45 mph average....But still it did not change from 6 when I stopped and started at the dentists and it drooped to 4 at the garage - distances about right...
