It's not going to happen is it? Even if it did, will the treasury take such a big hit in revenue? Answer = NO, they will find another way to tax us.

We have to have realistic expectations.

Fine, increase taxation somewhere else, but why penalise just motorists? somehow i don't think the government could get away with the same tax on milk!

Unfortunately, the tax system will not be seen to be fair to everyone. Tax on fuel also curbs it's use to some degree. Which is good for oil reserves, and for pollution in all its forms.

Maybe other countries (US, India, China etc) should increase fuel duty too.

Put the extra tax where exactly? Someone will argue with you no matter what you suggest

Easy solution to this. Don't buy from the big fuel companies.

If everyone refused to buy from all bar the supermarkets, the fuel companies would have to cut their price, and then the supermarkets would have to follow suit.

BUT, that would need a concerted effort and 'mass protest'. Also the actual cost of getting fuel to the pump is far less than the tax applied.

You can boycott, Esso BP etc. But where do you think the supermarkets get their fuel from???
There are not that many oil companies, Tesco/Sainsburys/Asda dont produce their own fuel they buy it from oil companies, Like Shell, Esso & BP.
