Some dealers couldn't care less. My dealer looks after you, I got an Omega last time I put my car in.

Last time I took my Astra into the Vaux garage to have it's little early morning bouncing problem looked at, I got a courtesy car - not quite as bad as Davey's, as it was at least a decent age and with not as many miles, but I can't believe they sent it out in the state it was in!! It was full of mud and rubbish inside as well as being filthy outside, and smelled like tramps had been living in it!!

I can't believe these places refer to them as 'courtesy cars'. Surely the kind of courtesy car you offer you customers reflects on both your business and your opinion of your clientele? Or are we expecting too much??!??!!?

You should of told her that next time your looking to buy a new car you will go to the grubby second hand back street trader instead of the dealer for a spanking new one, after all it is only for getting from A to B!! That attitude would soon put them out of business.

I suppose this is where my dealer exceeds expectations:

Book car in for Service or Warranty Work ...

They arrange for Car Hire company to come to dealership and collect me, take me back to their office and give me a brand new hire car for the day for free. I have driven a 55 Reg Saab and a spanking new Micra with 20 miles on the clock... It means the dealer hasn't got to keep a fleet of courtesy cars and they have some good deal with the car hire place.

Here, my dealer is great .... the service and respect for my car is terrible though.

a 98 astra isnt so bad mate, I have one as well as my Vectra, and its better than a lot of modern motors.

anyway, I've had worse than that, couple of years ago (pre Vectra C) I had a Chrysler Neon which failed its MOT just before I bought it, down to the fact it wasnt a jeep dealer and the franchise the dealer had wasnt popular (Proton) I got a N reg Escort 1.3 with chavtastic alloys, no leccy windows and absolutely gubbed. and got lumbered with it for a fortnight.

    think yersel lucky

When my GSI went into CAMDEN MOTORS, Leighton Buzzard they gave me an Astra that ran out of fuel after 10yards, yes 10 yards, and it was covered in a thick layer of dried on mud...I dropped the Vec off on the way to meet clients...I actually paid to have the car valeted I was that embarrassed..

They even told me to sort out the lack of fuel myself... I was still on their BLO#DY FORECOURT!!!

Unfortunately, some of the dealers attitudes to the general public are poor. Heres a little trick I use if i need a courtsey car ( rarely as our dealer collects the car on a small transporter for a service normally).
Phone up 2 - 3 weeks before and book the car in explaining that you need a courtesey car for the day. Explain that you travel a lot meeting "important clients" and the car needs to be suitable ie, a vectra and modern. If they say we haven't then say that you'll ring elsewhere and you are a important customer to them and that they wouldn't like to lose you and your money, emphasise money ( they'll "suprisingly" get one from somewhere).
When you collect it or drop it off, make a point of finding the person you spoke to on the phone and thank them for there help and assistance (cause they'll remember your name) and next time you need one it amazing how courteous they are.
