Default Wash / Wipe stalk acting up this morning

Hello, firstly what a great forum, and having owned my Signum for around 2 months now, what a car!

anyway i wonder if anyone can help with a problem i have with my wash / wipe stalk this morning. after turning the engine off with the wipers still going (right / wrong thing to do?) with the engine off they continued to run for a few moments then stopped in the middle of the windscreen.

when i went back a few moments later, and turned the engine on the wiper control went all out of sync, one push up (normally intermittent) would turn them on continuosly, one push down would move the wipers for as long as i held the controller down, ie i could stop the wipers mid screen if i let go, pull towards for wash / wipe nothing happened

anyone got any ideas before i call the garage?

    Chris

When you stopped the engine, did you turn off the ignition as well? The wipers will stay live until they park themselves, if you hit the stalk before, they will stop where they are (so you can leave them up for cleaning etc).

I expect next time you use the car they will be fine.

    thanks for the quick reply,

yeah, i needed to completely remove the key as i needed to go and lock the front door, classic case of defrost car then discover key to front door is on the same keyring as carkey

i'll go out at lunch and see if they have returned to normal and let you know

Sounds about right "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Wierd. My Veccy has started doing exactly the same following a flat battery and jump start yesterday (left headlights on ) but after a few ignition on and off attemts over the day it's still doing it! Checked fuses and all are OK. Not sure if there is a relay that is involved somewhere. Also, the front screen wash pump is not working. Rear is fine.

I'm stumped. Any ideas??? CANBUS issue?

I'm tempted to reset the ECU as the flat battery and jump may have caused some wierdness...

Haven't reset it yet. Will have a go tomorrow morning.

If that fails then it's out with the washer bottle and check the pumps for the washers. If the pump is ok (i know the rear is working) then it's a control issue with the relay etc..

Just odd that the front washer pump and intermittent wipe have packed up at the same time. (normal and fast speed both work OK)

OK Reset the ecu and it's still narfed.

Took off the LH wheel arch liner and had a play with the pump. Wired it directly to the battery in both polarities and it pumps to the front and rear screens just fine. So confirmed there's no blockage in the line and the pump is fine.

    What could it be?

Next possibilities are the relay then the CANBUS or perhaps the CIM?

I relalise the wiper motor could be causing the loss of intermittent but that would not affect the washer pump so i'm thinking it's a control issue.

Anyone had any problems with loss of washer control?

If i cant tie it down to a relay it'll have to go to a dealer which will no doubt cost an arm and a leg...

I've had exactly the same fault on two occasions - both times I've managed to rectify it, but not sure how exactly - it did involve a lot of jiggling of the wiper stalk
