    Default Number Plate Legality Question

I am contemplating buying a set of Euro Style Pressed Metal plates for my car, and i know they are not legal for Road Use.

Whats the maximum punishment for "Illegal" Number Plates??(£30 Fine, 3 points??)

30 quid, no points. Its a non-endorsable offence.

Furthermore, if the VRM is a private one, the DVLA could be informed and the VRM revoked

I got knabbed on me bike with illegal plates, traffic cop (W@nk@) who gave me the lecture etc etc, he then told me he was reporting me for illegal use of number plate and also a fixed penalty.

Fine ... gimme the ticket and hurry up.

He then produced a camera .... and took a picture ..... why ?

This image will now be recorded on the DVLA database and if i get pulled again with the same plate on then i may lose the plate and the bike will go on a "Q" ..... he chuckled and then said .... "then try sell it" (smarmy TW@t)

The point is i would be careful, your normal bobby wouldnt pick up on it tbh, but them traffic cops ..... Well i wont say as i think we have some here as members, (im sure they know what im thinkin) and i know your not all the same .... its just the Welsh ones with a big chip on the shoulder.

£30 pound fine as above. You could also be issued with a Defect Rectification Notice, which gives you 14 days to sort it out and then present your vehicle to an MOT station for them to check the fault is sorted and stamp your form.
If however you were unlucky enough to be reported to court for the matter then the max fine is £1000..
I am one of them 'Traffic Cops' but cant say I get too excited about number plate offences!!

I usually take a photo of offending plates. So mush easier when people try and contest the ticket....

And I was unaware of them going to the DVLA. Where did you get that from?

The ones Ben is talking about are a legal font in pressed metal not a wacky unreadable one,all they are missing is a makers postcode and BS mark.

Also if your insurance company wanted to be awkward (not that they would *lol*) they could refuse to insure you after an accident ...
