Hi all,
New to this site but stumbled across it while trying to sort an issue I have and it looks like there is loads of good advice and many wise heads! Have looked through the threads and some good pointers but nothing I could find just like my problem...
I have a 54 plate (05) Vectra 1.9 CDTI (150).
The other morning I turned on the ignition to be greeted by the engine control indicator light (car with spanner) and when I pulled off it had gone into ‘limp home’ mode. Pulled over after about 100 yds, turned ignition off and back on again. Light came back on initially but then went out when I started the engine. (Same thing happened about 14 months ago..) This seemed to have fixed it and I travelled 50 miles to work no problem.
After taking advice on what it could be I drained the fuel water filter and got a little water out and tried it again, again the same light came back on and stayed on after starting the engine… The next time I tried it (approx 3 hours later at lunchtime) the light came back on when turning the ignition on but the control indicator light for exhaust (engine symbol) also came on. After starting the engine the engine control light went out but the exhaust control light stayed on. However, I found that it had gone into ‘limp’ mode so tried turning ignition off and on again, this got me out of ‘limp’ mode but the lights were still the same..!? Travelled home hoping it did not suddenly go into ‘limp’ mode on the M42 and it didn’t thank god.
Any one out there got an idea of what this could be / had similar issues? I know I will probably have to get it to a dealer to get the ‘error’ codes checked out but I want to be able to point the garage in the right direction and know a little of what they should be looking for. Knowledge is power as they say and I don’t want to be taken for a ride or ‘fobbed off’ by a dealer who looks at me like a walking cash machine seeing as the car is out of warranty. (Not quite 3 years old but done 75k miles..)
All help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
