Default Window Tinting - Whats the Legal Light Limit on it?

I am not fully understanding the legal light limit on Window tinting, what is it(In %age), and does anyone have any pictures of their car's with the window's tinted to the legal level.

Am considering getting mine done after Xmas, but want to know what they will look like first.

The fronts must transmit a minimum of 70% light. As the window glass is already factory tinted to that level, technically if you add any tint film it will take you below the 70% level. From B pillar backwards you can go as dark as you want.

That's the legal stance on it.

Thats what i thought on the front's, and i cant be bothered with any potential aggro that may arise!

Back to the drawing boards then!

i've had two layers of the 30% on the rear window and 30% on all the sides for quite a while now and it's never warranted any attention from the police.

EDIT: take a look at this thread, it'll give you a good idea of what it looks like along with what level of tint the other guys had done, if you look directly through the car it's very light, it's only when you look into the car at an angle does it look dark.

scroll through to page 5 and check out neil's vectra, i saw it when it was finished and it looked absolutely stunning, the black on black theme looked really good.

up to you mate.. 705 from rear b pillar backwards... sri's are at the legal limit anyway...
but if u go for a dark/limo on b pillar backwards and a very light smoke on drivers/passengers door, am sure u wouldnt attract too much attention...
tbh though.. i struggle at night to see properly, and have only from b backwards... dunno if i would go for the fronts...

As Harry said though, it just depends how you go about it. As long as you don't go silly on the front, and there is a noticeable difference between the front and back windows then it's unlikely to attract any attention - it's still a risk obviously.

Here's mine with the lightest fronts you can get - 50%, 20% film on rears and 5% on tailgate (%=transmission) (old pics BTW as you can see - changed somewhat since then)...

I have no issues with seeing out at night, even on the rears.

    ayup ben,

as per duncan's pic here is my car i have 80% on all the rear's and 50% on the front's, did have 70% on the front but got pulled so i went for 50% and since then no problem's at all (touch wood)

it's an "old pic" but here you can see howthey look in the daylight, these % i mean are blocking by 80% on the rear's and 50% on the front's, never had a problem with visability at night and it would look well smart on a black car

my mate got his tints done just over a year ago and got done within a week, he went into durham to pick up his g/f after a night out, while he was waiting for her a couple of cops in a merc pulled up in front of him must have seen the windows, had a word with him and told him that they were going to put a meter on the windows to test the darkness level, he got an on the spot fine of £30 (i think) and got advised to remove them, then they went to another parked car and done the same thing with that driver. He never removed them and has had no trouble since.
