    Default B*gger...

It's so true - it only takes a second's lapse in concentration...

Driving off a roundabout this afternoon and managed to totally miss the road and bash my wheel off the kerb... Sent a loud thud through the car, and was thinking the worst... After a few seconds there was no rumbling of a bent alloy, and I thought for a second I'd gotten away with it...

No such luck - only took a few more seconds for the tyre to completely deflate and leave me with a flat. Had a quick look and to my utter suprise the alloy is fine! It's only 17", but with a thud like that I thought it would at least have a small dink - nothing!

Now, this left me with a slight snag - rear tyres are Vredestein 225/45 Ultracs, and when the front Goodyear 215/50's wore down I was going to replace with with the same.

Seeing as I was jsut down the road from Kwitfit, I thought I'd pop in on the off chance they had a spare old 215/50 so I wouldn't have to change them both, as you can't have different tyre sizes on the same axle. No such luck - cheapest they had was 140 squid fitted (Goodyear...)

So I've had to bite the bullet and I'm getting two new Vredestein 225/45's fitted tomorrow for 105 quid each. Not what I needed at this time of year...

And by god does the spacesaver look utterly ridiculous on my car...

I swear it's actually dangerous - so much so I'm gonna stick it on the back axle for the 25 mile drive to the garage tommorrow - at 45mph... I had a bit of a queue behind me today on the way back, it's like being a tractor having to pull in all the time to let them past...

Still, at least it gets all my rubber onto Vredestein and off the NCT5's...

Bummer! Double check the wheel when the tyre is off though, you may have damaged the wheel under the tyre, which you won't see until the tyre is off. Hope it's okay though.

This is the thing - I could handle it if it was just the alloy that was a bit damaged - the fact it blew the tyre is what's annoying me cos of what I now have to do...

To my surprise the SRi has a full size spare - although it's a 16" it's got to be better than a space saver

I suppose it's still FWD, and they put the speed limit on it and common sense would suggest you drive sensibly with it on. If you put it on and still go everywhere like a maniac then that's your own fault...
