Default About to leave for my FOC code reading

Before I take the beast for a code reading sesion...
Any safety pointers on how the procedure should be done are very welcomed. Kind of doubtfull about the Mexican labor and computers...
I have no clue how it is done, I know you plug the thing under the ash tray but the car should be running when you plug it? I mean I don`t want to end up with some ECu fried

I would think they'll read it with the engine off (ignition on) to see if there are any stored fault codes, then I would think they'll start it up to see if anything gets logged and to run through any diagnostics with the Tech 2.

They will Tech2 it with the ignition on. It won't communicate with the ECU with the ignition off. Once any codes are cleared, it should be given a run under various load conditions and then have the codes (if any) read again to see if any faults have returned/developed. Obviously nowt to worry about tho as nothing showed up. Sigh of relief there then eh?

When the air control valve played up on Larisa,s vectra there was no fault code......... But when I pulled the plug off with the engine on it, it then gave a fault code, but I would expect it too.
