Giving them back their right to strike....

I can see that becoming a headache for us again - the fire service we could cope with, just, and to be honest playing with the fire engines was quite good fun , even if they were Green Goddesses, but the police? I don't think we'd stand a chance....

If you did the job, you'd been feeling bl00dy angry as well. This devious, thieving, corrupt Government scraps a pay formula that has worked for thirty years, goes to arbitration, then tries to slip a further pay cut in by the back door.

The feeling of bitterness and resentment that is around at the moment is something I've never experienced before. Every single person I've talked too today supports the right to strike. It's not something we want to do, but it's the only way to deal with this despicable scum who call themselves a Government.

This is a significant pay cut, while at the same time Brown cuts Officer numbers, introduces thousands of plastic Police and demands more and more. I would suggest you find out more information before making such sweeping, generalised comments.

the armed forces have NO right to strike, therefore we'll be the ones covering the coppers every time they feel under payed.

and we are stretched enough as it is and not paid enough.

i was only referring to the story originally stating my opinion to why the police should get a rise and not the armed forces.

In the forces we get a wage rise every new working year, this year it was 3% and IIRC it was the same the year before. I'm not saying thats enough as the amount you earn for putting your life on the line is way below what it should be.

It's all one load ****, to keep inflation low my hairy arse it is, it's because your tight *******s and don't want to give the people that keep this country standing what they deserve, we all get robbed blind for what we do.

As police officers we are not allowed to strike, it is a criminal offence for us to do so.
The police service gave up the right to strike years ago as a pay formula was introduced that would see police pay rises given fairly on a yearly basis.
This current government has decided that they wont bother with sticking to the rules and have made their own.

If you consider that police officers being given fair pay makes you angry, then think how the 140'000 officers in this country feel.
I go to work every day and get sent to what ever happens, fatal road accidents, fights, deaths etc etc. This happens on a daily basis, I have lost count of the number of horrific and tragic things I have seen and dealt with. I have never walked away from anything and I have never not gone to an incident because I 'didnt like the sound of it'.
In return I ask for fair pay and for the government to play by the rules THEY introduced. They havent.
It makes me angry that the public expect police officers to deal with everyones trash, and get paid peanuts for doing it...
Ask yourself one question, when the wheel comes off and everything is going wrong...who do you call??

Nah, serisouly - right to strike I don't have a problem with - it's the fact that you can bet your bottom dollar the first people the Government will come to to help them will be us, and god knows I'm no police officer material...

I admire all the emergency sevices and the armed forces they do a great job, and should be rewarded in the correct manner for them, How many of use would not like to do their job. I for one could not do what some of them have to do.............. But some one has to, so give them the rewards they deserve.

I support the armed forces 100%, absolutely no question.
I'm from a military family and a lot of my family are currently serving.
What people dont understand about police pay is this,
There are rules and regulations covering how police pay rises are awarded. The government has decided 'screw that, and screw them, we'll just make it up as we go along'.
They have broken the agreement, and we the rank and file officers can do NOTHING about it. If we break the rules, we break the law.

I'm not saying it's right but at least the armed forces have The Armed Forces Pay Review Body, an independent body who advise the government, we, the police dont have and are not allowed to have such a thing. Maybe if we had an independent pay review body then it would work better.
