Default Ditching CDR 2005 - Noob questions

    Hi All

I can no longer deal with the poor quality of the CDR2005 in my 04 DTI LS, particularly the am reception which is lousy, and as I like to have radio 5 on that's a problem for me.

So I want to change it so here comes the dumb questions:

    1. Where can I buy a facia adapter with an exact match to the standard metallic silver finish? Do VX do one or is there a decent aftermarket supplier?

    2. Will the standard VX radio loom plug straight into the back of a new head unit? Is everything standardised or is the VX loom/plug proprietary?

    3. With a replacement headunit I assume the VX clock/date/radio display will be always blank. Is this correct or would I still have a time display?

    4. Anyone recommend a headunit brand with orange lighting that most closely matches/complements the VX standard?

    TIA

    Haven`t changed mine yet but...
    1) ebay I`ve seen some facias there, other memebers might give you specific supplyer.
2)you need a new loom according to the brand of head unit, this will allow the steering wheel controls to work as the do now.
3)No to shure but I think you`ll get everything except the radio info.
    4) no clue at all

    1. Vx do fascias that match your colour as do aftermarket suppliers.

    2. You will need a loom adapter. I would advise you to see which radios you can get a steering wheel controls adapter harness for and choose from them. Some aftermarket radios don't acccept them.

    3. The display will display everything it currently displays when the radio is off. The only info missing will be the radio info. I've seen some aftermarket units that will display the radio info on the display with an (expensive) adapter.

    4. As far as the display colour goes I wouldn't recomend trying to match it. I've tryed to do this in the past and it looks wrong as if you've badly matched it. If its totally different it can look like an accent colour if you choose carefully.

    The display

Oh yes you can match the colour display...

Alpine Head Units have a unique feature that lets you adjust colours until they are a near perfect match for your dash.

I had a 9855R last year that had this feature in my old Vec B SRi, and i matched the colours perfectly.
