    Angry "$£%&* &*%$$£" Dealers!

Took my car in this afternoon to have the faulty wiper motor replaced. After a brief discussion with the chap on the service desk (WHY didn't I need them to check what the problem was? It could be linkages, washer fluid, CIM module, stalk...... I knew full well what was wrong and I'd checked they had the part in I just wanted them to fix it!) they printed the job sheet and told me there were a couple of outstanding recalls. How efficient, eh?

    No.

    The outstanding recalls were..

    1. Swirl Valve - replaced about ayear ago already when they did the inlet manifold, so NOT NEEDED.
    2. DPF - enhanced regeneration software.

Now, I explained to them that I'd had the swirl valve done already at the dealers across town, and that I'd also had the ECU reflashed with the latest software a couple of months back (I wasn't lying, Regal did it for me when they loaded the remap) and I didn't know why it had come up with these outstanding. So I said that by all means they could check but under no circumstances were they to do anything other than the wiper motor without asking first. I left feeling slightly apprehensive - they just seemed too keen to get the recall work done, even though it wasn't needed...

So, I went back a couple of hours later, expecting it to be done. Not quite, the girl said after checking, they'd just got it plugged in to the computer, if I took a seat it wouldn't be long. I saw her looking at me strangely as I sat there with my head in my hands, wondering how on earth I was going to find another whole day to go back down to Regal and get the map reloaded

A while later they called me over, and explained that they'd done the recall work anyway so they could knock it off the system. Handed me the keys and I slunk out of the building like a kicked dog. I got back in my car and pulled off the car park.

I wasn't sure if I was imagining this or not, but it didn't seem that much slower as I drove off. I tried a few tentative bursts to see how bad it was, and couldn't decide, but I was stuck in sub-30mph traffic at rush hour. Left for work tonight still trying to work out when I could get back to Southampton, pulled onto the dual carriageway and put my foot down.

    OH MY GOD!!!!

The power was still there! My lovely, lovely torque hadn't been wiped out by the muppet tech2 operator at all! I have never been so relieved!!!!

Thankfully, the warranty period ends soon so I won't have to take it back and suffer that anxiety ever again!

Would I have had any comeback if they HAD wiped my remap, given that I'd specifically instructed them not to?

does'nt the re-map invalidate the warranty anyway, i am sure that there was talk that even 888 vxrpc re-maps were not being recognised by vx dealer's anymore, so a re-map = no warranty

would have been interesting though mate, just be glad it's still there and working fine imo

Glad to hear everything is ok. On the subject of recalls, having bought my car only a few months ago, is it just a case of taking it into the dealers and asking if all the recall work has been done and would you normally get some sort of receipt/stamp to say that it has?

You should be able to phone your dealer and give them your reg. They'll tell you there and then matey.

I wouldn't have thought so. They'd just say that they were doing service updates as they're meant to do. Obviously to even try and pursue it (if they had wiped it) you would have had to disclose about it having a remap, and then they may have just turned around and said that as it's not a standard car then they weren't to know and it's not their problem kinda thing.

Anyway, at least it's not an issue you have to address now.

They probably did not know how to delete the remap.
