Default Took the wifes car for MOT

Being very kind hearted (& currently working next door to a VW garage) I offered to take my wifes 1.9 diesel Polo in for a service & MOT today (hid the spare keys for the Vec tho she's only 10mins walk from work & didn't want to risk scuffed alloys as shes never driven it before).

I lovely 40 mile drive in the non-turbo diesel wasn't my idea of a relaxing journey to work, but I got there albeit 20 mins late .

1st I got a call saying the wipers were stuffed £40 (they were knaked)

2nd a salesman rang offering to sell me a new one ('uck off m8)

3rd It's failed it's MOT (3year old & 35K) suspension bushes worn, £400 +vat to fix. However part of the masterplan was to get the car in a few days before the warranty ran out (8th Dec)& it's covered under the warranty , but hey can't fix it today & I'm 40 miles from home, luckily they had a courtesy car an even slower 1.2 petrol Polo so I managed to get home (an hour late )

So now I face a lurvly journey to work again tomorrow in a ****** 1.2 & back tomorrow in the 1.9D crate, At least I went out in the Vec tonight for a break

Sorry for sounding stupid, but doesn't anyone take their motors to an independent mechanic, thats what I do.

Sorry but dealers are people I would trust the least with my car.

I have seen my mother and father take their car to the dealers loads of times for services and MOT's and they would always be told 'the car needs this', 'the car needs that'. They then started using an independent mechanic 15 years ago, the one I use now and do not get this hassle or ripped off.

Anything but m8, it's an illusion made up by the motor trade to keep prices high on em, the Skoda is my 1st and last experience of them, I'm back to Vx asap, if not it'll be a Toyboater or a Fraud.

The VW garage didn't do the MOT they serviced it & thought all was ok, the independent Mot station failed it. I'm glad it failed while it was still under warranty, if the bushes were on their way out now they certainly would have been stuffed by next year.

Got the car back yesterday at 6.00pm, very pi$$ed off with the garage as I told them I needed it for 4pm, they apparantly broke one the bushes when fitting it & had to strip it back out.

However in the 1hr 45min I was in the garage I saved £25 off the bill as I found a leaflet offering 1/2 price MOT's , when I questioned the service guy about it he said sorry thats only valid for pre-booked MOT, I kindly told him it was booked in a week ago & he said I should have given him the leaflet then, to which I replied in you were any good at cutomer service you would have told me about it at the time & if I hadn't been tearing my hair out reading every scrap of paper in the place due to them keeping me waiting I wouldn't have known about it either.

He then tried to charge me for 6 wiper blades & told me the spare had 8mm tread, I know for a fact the spare has less than 3mm but the idle 2hats hadn't bothered to look.

So at 6pm 40 miles from home I had to arrange to get my lad to a concert in Leicester, get home, eat, changed & in Leicester to watch him by 7.30, made it with 10 mins to spare, despite the M69 being blocked (another 10 mile detour), wife rang me on the way home giving me the "I wish you'd hurry up" to which I told her the Polo wouldn't do more than 100 .

However at least I remembered to get it in on time for its 1st MOT with 3 days left of the warranty saving me well over £400 .
