What the "ell does this signify,is it about to self destruct or is it a common glitch that can be cancelled, why does it happen?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, the car's software has gone into 'limp home mode'.

It normally tells you theres a problem somewhere, I don't know if there a way to DIY turn it off, you normally have to go to Vx so they can diagnose the problem.

Its the engine block shaped light, bottom right of dash, comes on when ignition is switched on and should go off after startup.

    That's the one.

It means there is a problem and needs to be checked at a dealer.

Is your car still under warranty?

it sounds like one of the many sensors may have malfunctioned, if it is still under warranty you should be ok, the hot air flow mass meter packed up on the wifes vectra b last week, i was able to find the fault with "the paper clip test" but the part still cost me £ 120 trade..
    take care

After 2 visits to the dealer, they found its an oxygen sensor, which they don't hold in stock!!!!,and after much pressure from me they also decided rear screen needs replacing as a heated element has failed,so car has to return for the 3rd time............but plus point was my annual oil change at 8000 miles only cost £57 bargain!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good morning

I'm having this same yellow engine block light problem on my 1.9CDTI, 55 plate.

I've recently fitted a 2nd hand turbo and EGR valve, the latter being fitted approx 6 months ago as the same light came on then and was told it was the EGR valve then,

It came on again 2 days ago and wont go off !!! After reading a few posts on here, a couple of here have suggested cleaning something with carb cleaner, but i'm not that technically minded !!! Is this an easy job and what exactly do i have to do to clean this mysterious part or parts ??? Or any other suggestions ??

Whats making it worse is that the car is actually up for sale so i need to get it sorted asap !!!!

You need to read the fault codes. Anything else is just guessing...

Thanks for the tip Rich - i thought that would be the answer. There's a garage local to me here that will check it out for me for a drink, just called them and they will look at it Sat morning for me - earliest i can take it down.

Just hoping its nothing to do with EGR or Turbo again !!!

Will update as and when - thanks again mate
