Default I thought my fuel economy was bad ... until I drove a Saab 93 2.0T Aero!

My car is in having some crash damage repaired (been in since Monday) and I've been given a new Saab 93 2.0T Aero Auto as a hire car. Quite a quick car although it doesn't feel quite as quick as mine it's quicker from 0 for sure. It's an auto which means it's dead easy to drive but it does seem very slow to change gear and kickdown sometime takes quite a while; the Sensotronic mode takes an age to actuate a gear change and when combined with a massive turbo lag it can get a little frustrating at times.

Nice car inside with leather (although not heated seats), 6 CD MP3 disc changer, Xenon headlights, dual zone climate etc etc but I have to say I prefer and miss my Vectra! I keep waiting for the lights to turn themselves on, wipers to start themselves and mirrors to dip and they don't!

Anyway car's OK except WOW does it drink juice! To be fair the reading below is based on about 80% slow town driving and the rest clear motorway, it is an auto, I've 'stretched it's legs once or twice for testing (well you have to don't you!) and it's only done 5k since new. That said however even when driving quite hard and mainly town driving etc etc in my V6 diesel Vectra I've never seen anything lower than about 22/23. The Saab after 90 miles .......

    15.4mpg

    A few pics:

Can't wait to get my super-economical V6 Diesel Vectra back now and start enjoying 23mpg again

That is thirsty Dave. My 2.0T will drop to high teens but only if really giving it the beans. Normal town driving i usually average in the mid 20's and on a run mid to high 30's. Mine is manual though

I like the Saab - it's a nice car, and quick, too their 1.9 diesel is easily quicker than the vectra.

Had a quick look at Saab and VX and they nearly the same, around 1450 kg.
