Default Handbrake just failed whilst I was sat in the car....

Pulled up outside home, stopped, and applied the handbrake 'AS' instructed to do on the patronising sticker, footbrake depressed, not pressing in button etc etc. took my foot off the brake pedal and started to get out the car.
Then the handbrake made a hell of a clunk and dropped completely to the bottom.
It didnt catch on another ratchet, or come off slightly but came off totally.
I am a class one police advanced driver and know how to apply a handbrake.....I will contact Vauxhall but no doubt will get told I didnt put it on properly.

I would go round in your Patrol Car, and get them told!

Yeah, This is an ongoing problem that Vauxhall know about but basically they arent doing a lot about it.
BBC Watchdog have run a story about it, but as yet there have been NO recalls regarding this problem.

Strange, I was always told to depress the handbrake button.

I was always taught to press the button, as this reduces wear on the ratchet

As we all were - but the 'advice' sticker from Vx definitely says NOT to press the button in while applying the handbrake.

Just a war of words m8. You can be the queene of England but still VX will say it was not put on correctly. An elderly lady got crushed by a Vectra that "Rolled Away" but of course the driver is getting prosocuted anyhow.

A class 1 police driver should know to leave a car in gear so it doesn't roll away when the handbrake fails...
