    Default Door Membrane

Have found that one of my door membranes has been butchered, the plastic sheet behind the door card, and just need to know if this is available as a separate part or is a trip to B&Q in order.

How badly butchered is it? It's really only to stop any damp getting into the door card, you could equally well use a bin liner and duck tape....

Yep, you can buy them separately from the dealers. You can also buy better stuff as I did - http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=9323

I thought it was also necessary for the side air bags to function correctly in the event of a side impact as the sensor relies on pressure differences, and if the membrane is torn then the sensor won't operate the airbag.

I've never heard of that, and can't see how. The membrane doesn't really hold back any pressure. It can't, as it has slits in it for the bowden cable for the door release for example and the door locking pin rod. I've only ever been aware of it there for the reason Paul said, as a moisture barrier.

Also, I didn't think the side impact sensors were in the door voids either?

Duncan, only commenting on what I previously read somewhere, with several people confirming it. This was however relating to a Vectra-B. Vec-C set up may well be different.

Sure, I wasn't saying you were wrong as such. From having replaced my membranes as above, I just couldn't see how the membrane could hold any significant pressure in the door void to affect how the impact sensor worked. Just off to see where they are actually situated....

I have to agree, it does sound weird, what with all the other places pressure can leak out though in the door. eg, door bottoms, stay catch, around the bottoms of the windows, etc.
