    Default swirl valve

Hope someone can help me! I have just bought a 2004 vectra 2.2 direct sri petrol, with just short of 80,000 on the clock. Looks good and drives well but a bit thirsty. Problem is I only have a 30 day warranty. I only had the car a couple of days when the "e.m.light" came on! They said they didnt know what the code was and put the light out. It came back on again so I took it back they looked at it again and said it was the swirl valve they kept it three days repaired it by cleaning it. The light came back on after only ten miles! It is due to go back next week, it is now out of its 30 days warranty. I dont think i will have a problem but if I have to pay for a new valve and fitting what do you think the bill would be?

hope someone can advise me! steve (new member)

    Steve, Don't pay a penny !!!!!
Assuming you've bought from a dealer/trader, regardless of any 30 day warranty, you have statutary rights under consumer law which cannot be taken away from you (dispite anything they may tell you).
This entitles you to have the car repaired at their expense for (I think) a minimum of six months (may be three) - you can check on the internet!!!
If they refuse to sort it out, threaten them with trading standards.
The car must be "of merchantable quality" i.e. no faults. If they don't sort it out, contact the council's trading standards department and take it from there.
    Good luck,
    Doug

I think for any repair of a fault you have done is usually guaranteed for a set period of time maybe 7days - 3 Months (thats the range) so read the small print on any invoices/receipts it tells you there. And in any case if you buy a car regardless of its age it i'm sure, it gets a 3 month dealer warranty if it is over 3 years old.

Any complaint/fault with your car - if it is reported in this time frame and is not repaired to a satisfactory level - then take it back, you BY LAW should not have to pay for it.

Any fault you have logged with the dealer you bought it from before the warranty expired, then it is still warranty/guarantee covered.

Make sure you produce invoices/receipts of any work the garage has performed on your car regarding the fault so they are aware it is a fault that became apparent before the warranty period is up.

Thanks for that gazza!4 as i said to Doug i got the car rom a big outfit so they shoud put it right but they will do this as cheaply as possible i.e. by only cleaning it! Problem with this is it is going to happen again and i am going to end up paying. What i want them to do is replace the valve and this should be the end of my problems. thanks steve.

No you wont, follow the link below:

    http://www.consumerrightsexpert.co.u...ourRights.html

You had taken the car back when it had the warranty so it is still covered, if not get in contact with the people stated in the above article, i know it is a pain in the a***, but you should not have to give out money for a car that is not functioning properly - and before the garage bring the miles on the car into then tell them to take a flying f***, that is nonsense, 80,000 is nothing if the car has been services/MOT'd properly. If this is not the case the garage has sold you an unfit car.

Like i said before keep all your receipts and contact the relevant bodies and you should get a resolution easily.

I am pretty sure there are people out there who have had better luck even if their car is out of its warranty altogether before a fault shows and get it sorted hassle free!!!

PS: The warranty/guarantee you received will come from the dealer so expect 'its wear and tear' if you receive this which you will, speak to the manager and in form him of you next actions concerning the car and with the advice of the link above.

    Best of luck!!
