    Default Diesel tank

Anyone apart from me notice a guzzling noise when filling up?

I never heard this on the petrol but it's happened each time i've been filling the car up.

Also even after pulling the nozzle out the fuel takes time to seep through the flappy bit on the tank. Is this normal??

Diesel is considerably gloopier than petrol, and froths in the tank. Lots of little popping bubbles = gurgling noise.

One thing that bugs me about diesels is that the pump gun is always covered in the stuff, people always think i'm trying to commit suicide or something, I stink of the stuff for about 3days?

Why is petrol pump gun not covered in petrol?

Petrol evaporates. Also petrol doesn't froth the way diesel does. Frothing diesel means you sometimes end up with half a litre coming back out at you. Used to happen all the time on my diesel Clio. 40 litres in the tank, 2 litres down your leg, over the forecourt - you get the picture.

If you look at the top of the filler you will see a small hole
This is the fuel return valve, allows the diesel to flow into the tank and allows the air to leave the fuel tank
Eventually as it fills diesel flows through this valve
