    Eek Handbrake just failed!!!

The wife has just nearly totalled the sri and the garage door. Handbrake was on and was parked in reverse. PHHHEEEWW!!! When she has gone out and started car, dipped the clutch the car has rolled forwards towards the garage. The situation was rectified by the swift actions (PANICCCC!!) of her right foot on the brake pedal and left hand to yank the handbrake back on. Not a happy bunny!!!!!! Will be ringing the dealer first thing in the morning. Noticed few timed this week it has been clunking on engaging it. All seems ok now so not sure what they will actually do. Thank God we've always parked all cars in gear whether on slope or not

PHEW it is! to the wife for her quick reactions.

Does anyone know what is causing these failures?

Mines been making some wierd clunking noises lately. When i mentioned it to vx they just changed the subject. my rear window winder failed and i was told that the parts are mostly plastic in the the regulator and they tend to wear. My rear window isn't used and the cars done 22000 miles. It seems that they don't want to know about the handbrake no matter how much we go on about the matter. I wonder if as a club with x amount of members all signing something we could make someone do something about it. Could be worth a try!

I doubt it mate. Not even the BBC, Watchdog and Which seem to faze VX. I think (God forbid) it will take a fatality to make them take notice!! It worries the s**t out of me because our vectra is always parked on the drive and my two young kids are in and out of the garage during the summer. I know it's parked in gear but it's still a horrible thought!!

    Good point well made!!!

It comes to something when you have to fear for your childrens lives every time there near the car. You could chock the wheel but it's just the inconvienience.

We could storm the main depot. LOL.

The idea of a petition was suggested but a poll showed that a majority (I think 65% last time i checked) of Vectra C owners suffered no fault. I'm sorry to say but it is a case of trying to sell a dead horse here - sorry.

All that can be said if you own a manual: apply handbrake, put into appropriate gear and turn wheels towards kerb - like that stupid patronising sticker says

    OR

If you have an automatic put it into park - the that wise a**e sticker says.
