Default Another Signum 2.2 Direct fuel injection pump problem

My 54 Vauxhall Signum 2.2 petrol direct had suffered some strangeness
recently, 3rd gear, firm acceleration, get to around 5000 rpm and it was like a rev-limiter kicking in.
Service light spanner thing comes on but runs normally after. Engine management light did not. Srvice light goes out after stop and re-start.

Browsed here so I had a very bad feeling that it was one of two things, Fuel pump sensor £50 :-)
    Fuel pump £550 :-(

Into stealers for diagnostics @ £35. "It's the fuel pump sir" Doh!

Car is 3+ yrs old, I'm the second owner and last service was not @ Vauxhall and it's 2 months out of extended warranty.

Asked them to speak to Vauxhall for contribution, please.

Result - 75% paid by them, that's good news for me then :-)

    Sherwoods of Stockton FYI

That's a result. I think that lends a bit of substance that not all is quite right with that injection arrangement.

    But it a good engine...

It seems that there is a known problem, but as yet no resolution, for the fuel pressure regulator sticking, particularly when hot. When it sticks the fuel pressure in the rail falls as fuel is allowed to leak out and back to the inlet side of the pump, if it recovers sometimes it will continue to run but sometimes it won't and you have to wait for it to cool down.

Mine has now got back to normal after a spate of this, but a change of fuel for a couple of tanks and some fuel system cleaner seems to have sorted it for now. At full throttle and max revs it's pulling fine so the pump seems to be OK. Since I'm on pump number 4 (all at Vx's expense), this is a good thing!
