A lot depends on the price of the item, there is a set rate and once you go over that they charge income duty + vat.Sending as a present does not really work anymore as they have been known to open and check contents now.If you add on approx 25% yoiu wont be that far away.i buy quite alot from U S A

If its sent by Fedex you will be charged, every item that i have ordered from the states that has been sent by fedex has had a bill arrive for the tax duty and charges about a week after ive had the package.. I have noticed that a lot of times when i've recieved items sent by USPS that i've not recieved charges on it, And the Gift route depends on what the value is, There is another option though, You could ask them to send it as a promotional item, Ive had several items arrive with that on the packing label that have not attracted any charges either..

    Good Luck Though...

IIRC the gift thing only works for gifts under £37 before customs and excise are interested.

    hi,

anything under £18 person to person is ok, anything under £36 as a gift is ok.

Anything over these values is taxed.

I just received a parcel $120 and got £11 vat + £8 parcelforce handling fee.
