    Default Vectra 1.8 Elegance

    Hi,

Just registered - picking the above car up on Friday. It's a 2004 model and I'm just curious about the screen thing in the middle. (It's my first Vauxhall so sorry if it's a ridiculous question!)

I don't understand Vauxhall specs at all other than Elite is very posh, GSi very fast and LS somewhere down the bottom. Where does an Elegance fit in around there? I've noticed on some Vectras, the screen in the middle is only two lines with some buttons on and some have the "full screen". But, I've been browsing this forum getting a load of (very helpful I might add!) information off it and apparently, even though the screens might be big, some have more information than others.

What will mine have? I couldn't flick around on the test drive because it was lit up with a massive petrol pump and "Range - 15 miles" so I'm assuming that I couldn't switch that off with it being so low on juice. I've not gone and bought a base model car have I? I like my toys and knowing that I can't access everything on that little screen will just get to me!

Thanks for any advice - I know it's a ridiculous question!

You'll have an OBC - On board computer. Does the car have a manual with it? That will explain all the functions it has - but things like range, as you saw, bulb warning lights (if a bulb fails), washer fluid level and umpteen other things. On the end of the right stalk you will have three buttons, this is what controls the OBC.

As Duncan has said, with it telling you the range left it should be a decent display with OBC.

Mine only has the basic display with the 2 buttons underneath, no OBC.

The car does have a manual....well, I opened the glovebox and there was something that looked suspiciously like a manual in it!

I hope you're right about the OBC thingy. Just out of general interest, are there only three types? The one line one with two buttons (as Ian has), the range and OBC type one that we're saying mine has, and the super duper colour one that the Elites and that have?

Is it as simple as that or is it much, much more complicated?

Thats pretty much right... 3 types, but a few different functions depending on the model year.... and your's being a 2004 its right on the time when they changed the functions on the OBC. Either way it will give you plenty of information to impress your mates and confuse female passengers ().

You'll just hae to have a play with it when it arrives and see what you've got.
