I was lucky enough to see the last flying one still in service just as I joined the RAF. It was doing an air display at RAF Benson in 1990. The pilot did a slow pass with the bomber doors open for all to see. What a machine!
The last one I saw flying was at the "Last Lightning Show" at Binbrook in 1986 or 1990 (I think) it didn't do the actual show cause the weather was so naff. But it did a rehersal a couple of days before. The best bit for me was the slow pass then a full throttle climb with a half roll. kit that big shouldn't be able to do that!
That brings back some memories of many hours spent in the cockpit on test runs way back in the 70's. Difficult to get in though if the towing arm was attached, I see they have taken it off.
Tell you what, it was easier to work on than the Vectra C, no computers to plug in to see if the engine was ok. (You could hear them if they were running)
